Our advocacy seeks to place bookshops firmly in the Arts sector, as we know that Australian authors generate their careers through support from local bookshops. We support our local industry stance on maintenance of Parallel Importation Rules, and advocate for writing and literature to receive a bigger slice of Australia Council funding. We lobby for a fair go for small business and our membership of the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA) supports this.
We also advocate for local bookshops to receive a fair deal from publishers, from terms and conditions to supply chain improvements. We have excellent relationships with our sibling organisations in the UK, USA and NZ, and provide opportunities for our members to engage with the global bookselling industry through membership of the European International Booksellers Federation.
